Descriptions of Boards and Positions
| Planning and Zoning
Commission The Planning
and Zoning Commission is a 9 person board comprised of citizens which live within the City
Limits of Platte City. One member of the Board can be the Mayor, and an Aldermen
representative appointed by the Mayor for a one-year term. The remaining 7 members are
recommended by the Mayor to the Board of Aldermen for approval. Each appointed member
serves 3 year alternating terms. The Planning and Zoning Commission elects a Chairman,
Vice-Chairman and Secretary from the 7 appointed members. These Officers serve a one-year
term from April to April. The Planning and Zoning Commission meet the first Tuesday of
each month at 7:00 p.m. |
Board of Zoning Adjustments The Board of Zoning Adjustments is a five member
Board who are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen. Each member of
the Board of Zoning Adjustments serves five year alternating terms. The members elect
their own chairman, who serves for one year. The Board of Zoning Adjustments meet on an as
need basis upon the submittal of a Variance Request, or hear and decide appeals of
decision or determination made by the Zoning Enforcement Person. All meetings of the Board
of Zoning Adjustments are considered public and Public Notice is made. |
Cemetery Board The Cemetery Board is a voluntary Board consisting
of not less than three persons, or more than five persons. They are appointed by the
Mayor with the approval of the Board of Aldermen. A Cemetery Board member not need be a
Citizen residing in the City Limits. The Cemetery Board meet on an as needed basis and
over sees the preservation, care, upkeep and adornment of the Platte City Cemetery. |
Park Board The Park Board is a nine-member board appointed by
the Mayor with approval from the Board of Aldermen. The Board is made up of Citizen within
the City Limits who express an interest in providing and maintaining free public parks to
the community. Board members hold alternating 1-year, 2-year and 3-year terms beginning in
June of each year. The Park Board meets on the First Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. |

Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer
Platte City, a growing Kansas City suburb (pop 5,200) is seeking
a Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer. Duties involve
building plan review, building permit issuance, inspection of
structural, mechanical, plumbing and electrical work for compliance
with International Building Codes. Position is also responsible
for enforcing City Zoning Ordinances and abatement of nuisance
violations. Requires an associate's degree in construction technology,
or two years experience in building inspection. Prefer certified
Inspector. The City offers excellent benefits and competitive
