City Administration

The Administrative Department is located in City Hall at 400 Main Street, Platte City, Missouri. Office Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

The City Administrator is responsible for the daily administration provided at City Hall as well as supervising the Chief of Police and Public Works Superintendent.  The position is also charged with carrying out policies adopted by the Board of Aldermen.

The City Clerk records and maintains all actions of the Board of Aldermen, Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustments, and Cemetery Board. This person keeps all public records available and provides public information in accordance with Missouri Sunshine Law. The City Clerk is responsible for the preparation and distribution of meeting agendas for the Board of Aldermen, Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustments, and the Cemetery Board.

The City Collector is responsible for the billing and collections of all service debts owed to the City. This includes but not limited to water, sewer and refuse billing, and user fees for public facilities. In addition to the collection duties, the Collector also assists in public facility scheduling. This includes the Civic Center, Youth Building, Swimming Pool, and the Park’s Shelters. The City Collector generally is the first person contacted at City Hall by Citizens in search of information.

The Municipal Court Clerk collects all court fees and fines in conjunction with the City Code. This person prepares the Court Docket and coordinates defendants, attorneys, City Prosecutor, Police Officers and Municipal Judge to ensure successful Court proceedings. The Court Clerk coordinates persons receiving probation and community service with appropriate services. The Court Clerk maintains all court record in accordance with Missouri Retention Regulations.

The Finance Officer is responsible for paying all the City’s payables in a timely manor. This person assists in preparation and administering of the Budget and prepares bi-weekly statements for the Board of Aldermen. The Finance Officer monitors all outgoing monies from each City Department, reconciles the Bank Statement and invests City funds. In addition, the Finance Officer prepares payroll for City personnel.

The City’s Building Department consists of a Building Inspector/Codes Enforcement Officer. This department is responsible for monitoring and inspection of all residential and commercial construction in accordance with the 2000 International Building Code and City Code. This department is also responsible for receiving and monitoring the abatement of nuisance complaints of residential and commercial properties.

The City's Planning Department consists of a Planner/Community Development Director.  This department is responsible for administering annexation petitions, rezoning requests, preliminary and final plat approvals, and site plan approvals.   This department is also responsible for enforcing city zoning and subdivision regulations and for maintaining plans of new developments.

Police Department

The Platte City Police Department provides the following services to the citizens:

Community Action Requests such as checking on your house while you are out of town or checking on speeding cars in your neighborhood;

Crime prevention presentations to community groups and businesses;

Towing of abandoned vehicles;

Fingerprinting of citizens for job applications;

Child identification kits are available for parents;

Officers contact new residents to inform them of city services;

Distribution of Royals baseball cards to children;

Jumpstart vehicles when needed;

Checking of business locations during the evening and weekends when they are closed.

Public Works

The Public Works Department provides citizens and businesses with efficient, professional and progressive service in the following areas:

Streets and Storm Sewer Services is responsible for citywide maintenance of asphalt and concrete streets, cleaning and repair of storm sewers, drop inlets, and public detention facilities.

Traffic Services is responsible for citywide traffic management, which includes all traffic signals, signs, and striping.

Water Services is responsible for delivery of clean potable water to residents and businesses. This includes the maintenance and operation of distribution lines and valves, water storage tanks, and water meters.

Sanitary Sewer Services is responsible for collection and treatment of sanitary waste, including maintenance and operation of sewer pump stations, sewer lines and manholes, and the wastewater treatment plant.

Solid Waste Services is responsible for management of trash collection and disposal, including recycling of eight commodities curbside, white goods, composting yard-waste and reuse of household hazardous waste.

Special Item Pickup: Items that are not picked up with normal trash (example: appliances, tires, yard waste, mattress etc.) are picked up on Monday’s, but requests must be phoned in by Friday before 4 p.m. (all yard waste must be placed in paper bags).
Dumpster purchase: $ 640.00 purchased from City*

*Dumpsters do not have to be purchased from the City, but must fit onto our trucks, please contact the Public Works department prior to purchasing from another agency to confirm size.
Trash Day on a Holiday: The holidays listed below are also observed by the refuse department.  Therefore, if your trash service day falls on a holiday, it will be picked up on the next business day.

Cemetery Service

The City of Platte City maintains a Historic Public Cemetery that is funded by perpetual care. The Cemetery records are available at City Hall. The arrangements for grave opening and closings, gravesite location and pre-need grave space purchases are all available at City Hall. In 1999, the Cemetery Board began a 5-year restoration program repairing, restoring, straightening, and cleaning historic stones and markers. Information about specific repairs can be obtained from the City Clerk.

Recycling Program

Residential curbside recycling (This service is picked up on the same day as trash service and is purely voluntary) A 24hr 7 days a week drop off recycling site is located at 108 Paxton(Public Works Facility).

Items Accepted:
Plastics: Any food or Household container which has a number 1 or 2 on the bottom or side.*
Tin: Food containers such as soup, vegetable, fruit and juice containers, etc
Newspaper: Newspapers including inserts
Magazines: All types of slick paper included in magazine or catalogs
Aluminum: All aluminum and soft drink cans
Glass: Clear, amber, & green beverage and food containers**
*  The City cannot accept any automotive product containers or household hazardous material.

** The following glass products cannot be accepted milky white glass, window glass, plate glass, light bulbs, crystal or stoneware.

Pool Party:
The Swimming Pool is available for rental on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 6 - 8 pm. Those interested in renting the pool can stop by City Hall and fill out the Rental Agreement form and pay the balance due at that time.

Over 100 people $160, plus $2.00 for each person over 100
Total number of people must include all persons inside the pool area (swimming or not).

The Board of Aldermen may at their discretion waive rental fee for use of the facility by other government agencies (request must be made in writing).

NO SMOKING AND NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
ARE ALLOWED IN THE PLATTE CITY CIVIC CENTER

There is a reservation policy, stating that reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis.  The Civic Center can be reserved by contacting City Hall at (816) 858-3046.

Persons or Groups using the facility should review the Reservation Policy, Facilities Use License/Agreement and Cancellation Policy.

The City provides all water, sewer, refuse and recycling service within the City.

Water Rates

$5.30 for first 1,000 gallons of water used (monthly minimum)
$4.90 each additional 1,000 gallons

Sewer Rates

$3.15 for first 1,000 gallons of water used (monthly minimum)
$2.75 each additional 1,000 gallons

Refuse and Recycling Rates

$11.80 per month for residential customers
$31.65 per month for Commercial Customers no dumpsters
Commercial customers with dumpsters call City Hall charges vary
