The Sanitary Sewer Services division of Public Works is responsible for the collection and treatment of sanitary waste. This includes maintenance and operation of sewer lines, manholes, pump stations, and the City's wastewater treatment plant.
Sewer Rates- Effective December 1, 2011
$5.50 for first 1,000 gallons of water used (monthly minimum)
$5.00 each additional 1,000 gallons
What should you do if sewage backs up into your home? First, take action to protect people and valuable property. Keeping in mind that ceramic plumbing fixtures such as toilets are fragile, quickly close all drain openings with stoppers or plugs. Tub, sink and floor drains may need additional weight to keep them sealed. A string mop can be used to help plug toilet openings.
Don't run any water down your drains until the blockage has been cleared. City personnel will be happy to respond and can help to determine if the backup is widespread in your neighborhood, or isolated to your service line. During business hours, contact us at 816-858-4815. After hours, contact Platte County Dispatch at 816-858-5848 and ask to have a Platte City police officer contact you. If the main line is not blocked, you will be advised to contact a plumbing or sewer contractor to check your service line. For more information, including how to prevent sewer backups, click here.
