2. How is the City of Platte City governed?
With a Mayor and Board of Aldermen. The Board of Aldermen is made up of 6 individuals elected by the citizens of Platte City. The City is divided up into three Wards. Each Ward has two representatives who serve alternating 2-year terms. The Mayor is also elected by the citizens of Platte City and serves a 2-year term. The Mayor is responsible for chairing the Board of Aldermen meetings and sub-committee meetings, and serves as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Although the Mayor does not have an active role in day to day operation of the City, he/she is kept advised to any pressing or ongoing matters and assists City Staff in resolving them. The Mayor appoints from the Board members, two advisory Sub-committees, Public Works and Public Safety. They meet and discuss issues involving those two departments on the first Monday and Tuesday, respectively, of each month at 5:30 p.m.

6. How can I tell if a toilet stool is leaking?
A quick check for a leaking stool is to place a few drops of food coloring into the tank of the stool and let it sit without flushing the stool for about 5 minutes. If color can be seen in the bowl of the stool, your stool has a leak.

Board of Alderman Meetings are 2nd and 4th Tuesday each month 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.

18. What do I need to know about having a pet in Platte City?
Annual Fee: The license fee for each dog or cat is five ($5.00) for all neutered or spayed animals and ten ($10.00) for those dogs or cats not neutered or spayed.

The bull terrier; Staffordshire bull terrier, The American pit bull terrier, The American Staffordshire terrier or any mix of bull terrier are prohibited. You may view the City Code by clicking on the link at the top of the home page. Maximum number of pets are: 2 cats and 2 dogs.

All cats and dogs that reside in Platte City must obtain a City tag on a yearly basis. Proof of rabies vaccination, neutered or spayed, and if a mixed breed a photo must be presented.
19. What about Lost and Found Pets?
Pets picked up by the City of Platte City are taken to Jackson’s Animal Clinic. Contact City Hall for information. Before pets can be released from Jackson’s, they must first be City tagged and a pickup fee paid at City Hall.
