The Planning and Zoning Commission is a 8 person board comprised of citizens which live within the City Limits of Platte City. One member of the Board can be the Mayor, and an Aldermen representative appointed by the Mayor for a one-year term. The remaining 6 members are recommended by the Mayor to the Board of Aldermen for approval. Each appointed member serves 3 year alternating terms. The Planning and Zoning Commission elects a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Secretary from the 7 appointed members. These Officers serve a one-year term from April to April. The Planning and Zoning Commission meet the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

The Board of Zoning Adjustments is a five member Board who are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen. Each member of the Board of Zoning Adjustments serves five year alternating terms. The members elect their own chairman, who serves for one year. The Board of Zoning Adjustments meet on an as need basis upon the submittal of a Variance Request or hear and decide appeals of decision or determination made by the Zoning Enforcement Person. All meetings of the Board of Zoning Adjustments are considered public and Public Notice is made.
